From 1985 to 2014 the Chicago Pride Parade’s number of attendees has grown by the thousands. The Chicago Pride Parade has through the years become an important event in the Windy City.

The Chicago Pride Parade originated in the 1970s organized by the Gay Liberation Movement in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots. The LGBTQ+ community has always stood out for the pride, activism, and advocacy demonstrated by proud community members.

The Chicago Pride Parade has always been since it’s birth the heart of LGBTQ+ pride. A parade that started out small has grown over the years to become one of the most attended events in the Chicagoland area.

The Chicago Pride Parade now amasses an average of 1 million attendees as of 2013 and 2014, shown by the bar graph data. The Chicago Pride Parade at present is the main event of June Pride Month. The Chicago Pride Parade gave way to Pride Week and more recently Pride Month. As the parade and pride festivities continue to evolve the numbers of attendees will predictably continue to grow.
